“Seek truth!”
That was the call of Balthazar, the ancient rat from my young adult novel, The Great & the Small, as he rallied a throng of his fellow rats to think for themselves and pursue truth. Today, the importance to seek truth has never been greater or the stakes higher.
I wrote The Great & the Small as a response to what I had seen as a 10-year-old at a concentration camp museum. What I saw in the photo museum changed me forever. It planted in me the all-consuming desire to decode what makes one baby grow into a Hitler or a Stalin, and another into a Nelson Mandela.
But seeking truth isn’t just about finding it in the outside world. It’s also about seeking it within. It’s about each one of us choosing to be part of the solution to the world’s ills, using our unique gifts and talents.
I am shifting my focus from being solely a writer/illustrator to also becoming a mental health and creativity coach. I realized that I’ve never been an artist for art’s sake—my writing and illustrating has always been about the search for deeper meaning and connecting with others who wish to do the same.
I invite you to connect with me on social media where I will be sharing reels and stories that are all about living to our highest potential and becoming that force for good that we each have within us.
